4-H Announcements 6/17/2022

THANK YOU!

As you may know I have been out the last two weeks with pneumonia.  I am recovering well so far (a little slower than I woukld like) and will be working remotely beginning Monday, June 20th.  While I have been out sick,  I have many thank you’s to give out!

Club Leaders:  I’ve been noticing all the activity on your Facebook pages offering project education and doing fundraisers.  You are all awesome!  I am so thankful for the special attention you give to your clubs!

Project Leaders:  Thank you for all the special opportunities you are offering youth in many areas such as livestock and animal education as well as sewing camp and fashion revue!

Camp Volunteers & Counselors:  I know there has been a ton of training you have been working on.  Thanks so much for taking the time to complete it and also for taking the time out of busy schedules to attend camp (only about 1 week away)!

Sarah Thompson:  Thank you so much for your extra help with camp planning and answering volunteer and member questions while I am out.

POULTRY PROJECT

If you are showing Poultry at the fair please make sure you get them pullorum tested by July 15th per the 2022 Junior fair premium book.   I recommend that you contact Juanene Johnson via text or phone call at (920) 358-3547 to set up a testing date and time.  When setting up a time and date please inquire about all fees that are associated with getting your birds tested and any expectations on the day of testing.  All poultry which includes chickens, ducks, geese, peacocks, and all wild game birds will need to be tested.  You will also need to know your Premise ID number to have your poultry tested.  Please have that ready by the day of testing.  Once you have your birds tested and the paperwork is completely filled out you will need to bring a paper copy and the original to the fair with you on check-in day.  You may also send a copy via email of the completely filled out testing paper to all4goods@outlook.com, Wendy Good the Poultry Superintendant, and then just bring the original to the fair on check-in day.  If you have any questions please reach out to Wendy Good 757-705-0210 or all4goods@outlook.com

DO YOU HAVE A BIG TRUCK?

We are looking for someone that has a 1 ton truck that would be willing to pull a trailer filled with camper luggage to Upham Woods on June 27th.  We return from camp on June 30th.  If you or someone you know can help out, please contact Dana Berger:  dana.berger@wisc.edu.  We can remiburse for gas expense.

BASKET RAFFLE

It’s time to put together baskets for the 4-H Leaders’ Association Annual Basket Raffle held at the 2021 Winnebago County Fair! We need the support of ALL 4-H clubs to make this year’s raffle a success. Anyone can donate a raffle basket! All clubs are encouraged to donate a theme basket(s) (bath/spa, date night, child-themed, holiday, sports, gardening, camping, birding, cooking, grilling, artist, etc). Don’t forget to contact local businesses or individuals. All are welcome to donate baskets to support 4-H!

Can’t donate an entire basket? Individual items can be combined with other items or placed in baskets by the Basket Raffle Committee. All baskets must be:

  • In a container of some kind – basket, tote, bucket, cooler, etc.
  • Wrapped in cellophane or a clear plastic bag. Wrapping the basket will keep things clean and help ensure that the contents stay in baskets while on display at the fairgrounds.
  • Include a clearly displayed card/sign listing items in basket and thanking any donors
  • NO perishable items, alcohol or tobacco products
  • Baskets must be dropped off at the Extension Office by noon on Friday, July 29 2022.

WINNEBAGO COUNTY FAIR ENTRY

Junior Fair and Open Class (Adult) Exhibitors – Fair Entry is now OPEN for the 2022 Winnebago County Fair, August 3-7 2022. Entry Deadline is Sunday, June 26 at 11:59pm. Please visit their website for links to this year’s rules, premium book and link to FairEntry: https://winnebagocountyfaironline.com/exhibitors/

Important Updates for 2022:

• Junior Class Entry Fees increased to $0.50/exhibit.

• Open Class (adult) Entry Fees increased to $0.75/exhibit.

• Poultry Show DATCP Notice 5/10/22 (No Live Shows until 30 days after last detection of HPAI in Wisconsin): https://datcp.wi.gov/…/20220510HPAISuspensionEvents.aspx

• Beef & Dairy Horn Rule Wording Updated: “In order to provide optimal safety conditions for all exhibitors and fair participants, the WCFA does not allow horns on cattle older than 6 months of age. Outgrowth from horn removal will not constitute a horn unless it is pointed and/or deemed hazardous/unsafe by the WCFA’S appointed committee.”

Help support youth exhibitors by consulting with the fair board prior to arriving at the fair if your dairy or beef animal has a horn or any kind of outgrowth following horn removal. We want to set all exhibitors up for success and do NOT want to send an animal home at check-in. This causes unnecessary frustration, disappointment and missed opportunities for everyone involved.

DIPPER SIGN UP

The 4-H Dipper Committee has some exciting news to share!

Going with this year’s theme “Good Ole Days & Cool Modern Ways”, we are bringing the 4-H Dipper back to how it started, but with a new modern way! We will be serving beverages and ice cream only, but we will be adding shakes, malts, additional sundae options, and build your own floats to stand out from all the rest!

We reached out to Culver’s Westowne and received an amazing sponsorship donation to purchase our new triple head milkshake machine! We can make 3 different shakes at 1 time, how awesome is that!  We are so excited to get back to our roots and hope you will be too!

We have established the following schedule for the 4-H Dipper at the county fair:

Wednesday, 8/3/2022 – 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM

Thursday, 8/4/2022 – 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM

Friday, 8/5/2022 – 11:00 AM to 8:30 PM

Saturday, 8/6/2022 – 11:00 AM to 8:30 PM

Sunday, 8/7/2022 – 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM

We will be using SignUp Genius again to help register volunteers for shifts across the various days of the fair as well as a Dipper Prep and Clean date on Sunday, 7/31/2022 and a Dipper shutdown date on Monday, 8/8/2022.

Each 4-H Dipper shift will be 2 hours and should consist of 4 Adults/Older Youth (8th Grade and higher) and 4 younger youth (Cloverbuds through 7th grade). Responsibilities may vary depending on shift but we would prefer to have adults and older youth handle the cash box, scoop ice cream, make shakes and malts, and help supervise the team during the shift. Younger youth can serve drinks, take orders on the iPAD, and help put toppings on the sundaes.

The opening and closing shifts will have 30 minutes of time to handle the necessary tasks to either open the dipper in the morning or close down the dipper in the evening. You will see that time as part of the shift descriptions.Clubs can sign up for shifts but we ask that the individuals that will be working the shift sign up for their times so we can learn names and know who is coming to help us work the shifts. Remember, the idea of the signups is to add flexibility to YOUR fair schedule. Pick times that will work for you and your family or you and your club and help us out! It is a great opportunity to meet other youth and adults from around the county you may not see on a regular basis.

Please visit https://tinyurl.com/4abrcuk4 to sign up for your Dipper shifts and if you have any questions, please contact a member of the Dipper committee. We will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. We look forward to working with you at the 2022 Winnebago County Fair!
