4-H Announcements 1/27/2023

PROJECT ADDITIONS/CHANGES IN 4HONLINE

If you have any project changes you would like to make on 4Honline, please email the changes to dana.berger@wisc.edu no later than January 31st.  This is the deadline for projects chosen for potential fair entries.  FAIR ENTRY (which is where you sign up for actual fair exhibits) will be available in early June.


DOG PROJECT

Next meeting is Feb. 16 at 6:30 PM at Oshkosh Animal Hospital for a tour and demonstration by a veterinarian. Members are to bring a product donation for the Oshkosh Humane Society.


SNOW TUBING AT NORDIC MOUNTAIN

Winnebago County 4-H YAC is hosting a snow tubing adventure for all youth in grades 6-12!
When:  February 25th
Where:  Nordic Mountain
Time:  Tubing time slot is from 1-3PM
Cost: $25 per person

We also need a few adult 4-H approved volunteers!  Please email dana.berger@wisc.edu if you can help out.


MEAT ANIMAL BOARD INFO

Here are some updates from the Meat Animal Board:
Beef Weigh In will be Saturday February 25, 2023 from 9 – 11 am at DOUG REESE FARM with a snow date of Saturday March 4 from 9 – 11 am.

HORSE & PONY LOCK-IN

Please join the Horse & Pony Project for their Annual Horse & Pony Lock-In on February 18th 2023 at 6:00pm at the JP Coughlin Center. 
They will start with a Taco Bar dinner. Followed by a presentation by Dr. Andrea Bell from Greatlakes Equine. Then, get your craft on with the making of a Horseshoe Dreamcatcher!
Wendy Stabler will be there to talk about Horse Bowl and have questions to practice with so you can get a feel of what the competition is like. Some of the members will share their knowledge about the Model Horse Category for Fair and we will be finishing up the evening with a viewing of the 2020 version of Black Beauty.
Youth will not only have a great time but will also earn an Educational Credit (remember those books you got at the first meeting). Remember to bring your Handbook along so we can sign off on them.
The event goes until 11:30pm. We will have an 8:00pm pick-up for those who choose. 


RABBIT PROJECT MEETING

There will be a rabbit project meeting on February 19th at JPCC from 12-2PM.  Also we will be conducting a showmanship clinic. Each member is allowed to bring 1 rabbit in a secure carrying cage if they wish to do a practice run of showmanship. We will be ordering pizza in as well! 


4-H FOODS REVIEW!

Imagine the PASTAbilities at our 2023 Winnebago County 4-H Foods Review!
When:  February 24th

Time:  5:30-8:30 PM
Cost:  $5 per youth

DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS FEBRUARY 10TH
Although this is geared for youth in the food project, you don’t have to be enrolled in the food project to participate!

4-H KEY AWARD AND SCHOLARSHIPS

4-H Key Award is the highest 4-H recognition you can receive. 4-H Key Award applicants must have consistent 4-H growth, be a 4-H youth in 9th grade or older, must have completed at least 3 years of 4-H and 1 year of youth leadership and contributed to service to their club, community, and county.
The Winnebago County 4-H Leaders’ Association awards up to five $500 scholarships to current 4-H members who are high school seniors. This 
includes one scholarship from the Judith Gruszynske Memorial (Oshkosh 
Area Community Foundation), one scholarship from the Simpson Memorial, one from the Stevenson Memorial, and two from the Winnebago County 4-H Leaders’ Association. 

The Key Award and Academic Scholarships (for post-high school education) are a combined application. Youth can apply for just one or both, depending on their eligibility.

March 4th at Sunnyview Exposition Center – Opens at 9AM
$1 admission

2023 RABBIT FUN SHOW

It’s fun show time! We will once again be putting on a raffle, donations are welcomed and encouraged from clubs and individuals!  
April 22nd at Winnebago County Fairgrounds – Barn A
ENTRY FEES: $1.00 per entry. Please bring your own lunch! We are the only ones on the fairgrounds (as of right now) so no hot food will be available this year. We may offer this again in the future, but for now we will be limited to water and snacks as sale items just to make things easy. 
Not listed on the flyer: We will be STARTING with Showmanship in the morning, with the breed show starting after the conclusion of showmanship.  See attached flyer for all the details.


4-H SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION IS OPEN

CAMP CHAPERONES NEEDED

VISIT BARLOW PLANETARIUM WITH RIDGEWAY

Come enjoy the Barlow Planetarium & Weis Earth Science Museum located on the UW-Fox Valley campus on Saturday, March 18th!  You will be able to participate in 1 or 2 Planetarium shows, and enjoy the Weis Earth Science Museum all for a low price!  There are only 98 seats for each Planetarium show so select your seats today!  Families may select 1 or both shows to attend & visit the Weis Museum & Gift shop. Grade levels are for the intended audience, all are welcome.
