DIPPER SIGN UPS NEEDED!
As of the end of June we NEED volunteers for the following shifts so please sign up to support our fundraising efforts:
- Wednesday, 8/2/2023 – 4:30 – 6:30 PM
- Wednesday, 8/2/2023 – 6:30 – 8:30 PM
- Thursday, 8/3/2023 – 6:30 – 8:30 PM
- All Friday, 8/4/2023 shifts after 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM
- All Saturday, 8/5/2023 shifts after 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM
- All Sunday, 8/6/2023
We also need volunteers Monday, 8/7/2023 shutdown shift from 9:00 am to noon.
Each 4-H Dipper shift will be 2 hours and should consist of 4 Adults/Older Youth (8th Grade and higher) and 4 younger youth (Cloverbuds through 7th grade).
Responsibilities may vary depending on shift but we would prefer to have adults and older youth handle the cash box, scoop ice cream, make shakes and malts, and help supervise the team during the shift. Younger youth can serve drinks, take orders on the iPAD, and help put toppings on the sundaes.
Clubs can sign up for shifts but we ask that the individuals that will be working the shift sign up for their times so we can learn names and know who is coming to help us work the shifts. Remember, the idea of the signups is to add flexibility to YOUR fair schedule. Pick times that will work for you and your family or you and your club and help us out! It is a great opportunity to meet other youth and adults from around the county you may not see on a regular basis.
Please visit https://tinyurl.com/2ateay6j to sign up for your Dipper shifts and if you have any questions, please ask the office or contact a member of the Dipper committee. We will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. We look forward to working with you at the 2023 Winnebago County Fair
4-H Basket Raffle
It’s time once again plan to put together baskets for the 4-H Leaders’ Association Annual Basket Raffle held at the 2023 Winnebago County Fair! We need the support of ALL 4-H clubs to make this year’s raffle a success. Anyone can donate a raffle basket! All clubs are encouraged to donate a theme basket(s) (bath/spa, movie night, child-themed, holiday, sports, gardening, camping, birding, cooking, grilling, artist, etc). Don’t forget to contact local businesses or individuals. All are welcome to donate baskets to support 4-H! Can’t donate an entire basket?
Individual items can be combined with other items or placed in baskets by the Basket Raffle Committee. All baskets must be:
- In a container of some kind – basket, tote, bucket, cooler, etc.
- Wrapped in cellophane or a clear plastic bag to keep things clean and help ensure that the contents stay in baskets while on display at the fairgrounds.
- Include a clearly displayed card/sign listing items in basket, thanking any donors, and stating the club’s name.
- NO perishable items, NO alcohol, NO tobacco products
- Baskets must be dropped off at the Extension Office by noon on Friday, July 28, 2023.
THE BASKET RAFFLE ALSO NEEDS HELPERS TO SELL TICKETS / RUN THE TABLE

Winnebago County Fair Community Service Opportunities
As 4-H-ers we pledge our hands to larger service and that is just what the Winnebago County Fair is looking for! We are encouraging all 4-H families to participate where they are able as volunteers for the 2023 Winnebago County Fair Set-Up and Clean-Up after the fair. This year the Pyrotechnics Guild International (PGI) is holding their fireworks convention immediately following the Fair. PGI will be moving in on Wednesday, August 9. This means we only have TWO DAYS to tear down the entire Fair! This is why we are looking to show our 4-H community support by helping with these efforts. FAIR Volunteers work all year to put on the fair and we hope that 4-H will show their 4-H spirit and community pride and lend our hands to service.
In addition to the clean-up efforts, there are volunteer opportunities all week long; please look at the sign up genius for times and opportunities that work for your families.
- Fair Set-Up 7/26-8/1 (lots of manual labor volunteers needed!)
- Grandstand: Track Set-Up & Nightly Event Clean-Up 7/31-8/6
- Expo Judging Days 7/31 & 8/1: Clerks & Display Helpers
- Expo Monitors During Fair (exhibitors & families) 8/2-8/6
- Expo Building Take-Down Sunday 8/6 (4-5:30pm and 5:30-7pm)
- Fair Grounds Take-Down 8/6-8/8 (lots of manual labor volunteers needed!)
- Animal Exhibitors – as usual, please talk to your club or group about pen/stall set-up, barn decorations and barn duty during fair (these are not on the sign-up genius from Fair).
FOOD: If you are volunteering through lunch or dinner times, we will provide food. We appreciate you giving additional time this year to help us out!
CLEAN-UP VOLUNTEERS: Clean-up is our most urgent need this year!!! We are working on getting some tickets to the public PGI Fireworks shows on Sunday, August 13 and Friday, August 18. Our clean-up volunteers will have first access to these tickets as a Thank-You for your help.
AGES: We ask that anyone under 14 years old is with an adult. Fair week is a busy week full of opportunities, organized by many volunteers, for members to exhibit the skills they have learned and developed. Let’s support them and show how we can give back to our community and show
4-H families new and old how important and beneficial volunteering is.
FOR QUESTIONS REGARDING THE ABOVE COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES, PLEASE CONTACT: 920-685-3013 or winnebagocountyfair@gmail.com
SEND YOUR 4-H PHOTOS!
The 4-H Ambassadors will be updating the photos on their DNA display at the fair this year. Please share your most recent club, project and other 4-H photos with them. Photos can be uploaded here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/as3tJVPeaMEVyhL1A
4-H CLUB SCRAP BOOKS
Do you have any 4-H club scrapbooks (new and old)? If so, they can be delivered for county fair display and reading. There will be at tables in the Expo building (south/carpeted area) along the west wall as part of the “unmanned” 4-H history display. If anyone has “old/historical” 4-H items they would like to be donated to the 4-H program at the Extension office, please consider sharing these items also. Check it out this year and perhaps you have a photo, or information that will complete a story or series of stories. The display will be put up on Monday, July 31. Questions? Contact Jim Barthel: bartheljhof@gmail.com
